E.ON begins mounting the new unit at the Shaturskaya power plant

E.ON begins installation of the new gas turbine for the new single shaft combined cycle (CCGT) unit currently under construction at the Shaturskaya power plant (Shaturskaya GRES) in Moscow region.

"This is the first and so far the only one class F turbine in Russia. Its installation is an excellent example of the Russian power generation industry modernization, matching the highest international standards", - says E.ON Russia Power CEO Sergei Tazin.

The turbines of the same type were constructed in recent years in the United Kingdom (Connah’s Quay) and Germany (Irsching).

According to Mr. Tazin, efficiency of the new CCGT unit tops 55 per cent, compared to hardly 40 per cent demonstrated by the units currently in use at the Shaturskaya power plant.

The 285,7 ton turbine was built to the E.ON order in the United States, shipped to St. Petersburg and then transported by the Oka river to the town of Kolomna, where a temporary quay had been built specifically to disembark the turbine. From Kolomna to Shatura the turbine was delivered on a special trailer.

The current installed capacity of the Shaturskaya power plant of 1100 MW will be increased to 1500 MW after the unit will be commissioned in 2010. The power plant belongs to the OAO OGK-4, which has been a part of the E.ON Group since 2007.  The E.ON shareholding in OGK-4 comprises 78,3 per cent.

The E.ON investment in the New Build projects in Russia is 2.3 bln Euros. The E.ON investment program stipulates construction of four new CCGT units and one lignite-fired unit with a total installed capacity of 2400 MW.

OGK-4 consists of Surgutskaya GRES-2 (4800 MW), Berezovskaya GRES (1 500 MW), Shaturskaya GRES (1 100 MW), Yayvinskaya GRES (600 MW) and Smolenskaya GRES (630 MW).
